Stupid Flashcards Part 2
Sampling method used:
Convenience Sampling
Adv: Quick
Disadv: Not representative
Total used:
56 HY Senior School Students
M-44
F-12
Descriptive Statistics:
Allows us to summarise and organise the data.
E.G. Mean, Median, Mode and Range
Cued Recall:
Involves the use of specific prompts to aid retrieval and therefore reproduction of the required information.
Recognition:
Identifying the original, learnt information in the presence of correct information and distractors.
Cued Recall Stats:
Mean: 11.64
Range: 15 (20 - 5)
Median: 11
Mode: 13
Recognition Stats:
Mean: 15.65
Range: 11 (20 - 9)
Median: 16
Mode: 18
Past Research:
Suggests that recognition provides more retrieval cues, thus is a more reliable measure of retention, a hypothesis ratified by the data.
EV 1:
Participant Difference - Higher Number of Females in recognition condition
EV 2:
Standardised Instructions - Different Experimenters
EV 3:
Participant Differences - Memory Ability
EV’S:
- Name and Explain
- Effect on DV
- Prevention of the EV
Validity:
Measuring accuracy, whether or not the IV caused the DV
Reliability:
Would we generate the same results
Conclusion:
Recognition is a more reliable method of retrieval, however it is unclear whether this conclusion is valid as there is a presence of E.V’s which could make the research unvalid.
