3: KKDP 8: Interactions between specific regions of the brain Flashcards
Implicit memories:
Don’t require intentional or conscious recall
E.G. of Implicit memories:
Procedural memories - Driving a manual car
Explicit memories:
Requires conscious or intentional recall
E.G. of Explicit memories:
Factual information - Who is the Aus PM
Consolidation:
The biological process of making a newly formed memory stable and enduring after learning. Takes up to 30 minutes
Consolidation (2)
During the structural and physical changes to the neurons in the brain, this period of consolidation is vulnerable to disruption.
Hippocampus Function 1:
Formation and retrieval of explicit memories
Hippocampus Function 2:
Consolidation of explicit memories
Amygdala Function 1:
Responsible for forming emotional memory.
Amygdala Function 2:
Regulates emotions such as fear and aggression, which enhances memorability of an event
Cerebral Cortex Function:
To store explicit memories
The Cerebellum Function 1:
Coordinates fine muscle movements
The Cerebellum Function 3:
Involved in the encoding and storage of implicit procedural memories of motor skills
