There is high inter rater reliability as it’s an observation it can be seen to be subjective however the research was carried out by other researchers and the observeation agreed rate was 94% this is a strength as it shows that the strange situation has high inter rater reliability and that the observation isn’t subjective thus the finding and conclusion can be relied on as many agrees that they were the correct findings thus the findings are representative and based on objective judgements increasing validity

Imposed ethics the study was done on us children based on us cultures so it is hard to apply and asses the security of attachment of children in other countries as it imposing ethics takahashi stated that it is very uncommon for a child to be left alone during the day without the mother so the situation is a rare occurrence and the infant would show extreme distress thus this is a weakness as the difference in child rearing practices will Affect how attachment s formed thus the assessment cannot be used to asses children in other countries and cultures

There is another attachment type unaccounted for the observation was watched again and it was found there was another type insecure disorganised it included low and inconsistent social interaction with the caregiver when the caregiver returned the infant was extremely affectionate but then resorted and looked scared of the caregiver this is a weakness as this attachment type isn’t accouned for as a result some of the infants may have been categorises in the wrong attachment type leading to in accurate finding
