Q

what are the different parts of the cogntive interview

A

. It involves 4 sections context reinstatement, reporting everything, repotting from a different viewpoint and reporting reverse chronsological order. Context is reinstatement is placing the individualback into the event and remebeing all the sights and sounds and emotions this works as it allows the person to revisit the event and imagine they are actually there so it allows them to remember aspects of the event they may have thought they’ve forgotten. Reporting everything is reporting every single detail throughout the event it works as it doesn’t miss out any crucial aspect which the witness may think is irrelevant thus the interviewer is told all the kittle details, report from a different viewpoint is recalling the incident from another persons viewpoint this allows a different view point so the interviewer can understand the overall whole picture of the incident.reverse chronogical order is repeating the events from the most significant part and everything before the build up in reverse. It works as it allows the interviewer to clarify ordwr of events and what actually happenedlo,0

Q

one strength of the cognitive interview

A

One strength of the cognitive interview is it leads to more accurate answers and testimonies partcipants were ased to watch a video robbery they were then asked question on interviews about the clip through either standardised poice interviews or hypnosis or cognitive intervies, participants who were cognitively interviewed gave a more accurate witness testimony followed by standardised followed by hyonosis this is a strength as it supports the techniques used to remember more facts so the interviewer can lead to establish more accurate facts so that the right person can be improsined thus increasing the effectiveness of the cognitive interview

Q

one weakness of the cognitive interview

A

One weakness is that the cognitive interview takes a lot of time and resources to set up . the cognitive interview requires specialist training and not all officers will be able to be able to take part in training thus not all officers will be able to conduct such interviews thus this training cost money for the interviews and the police force. Additionally the whole cognitive process takes a long time the interviewer needs to develop a rapport with the witness and then start to ask questions this takes longer than a normal standard interview thus the cognitive interview can be seen as excessive in time of expenses and time spent on organising such interviews thus it is decresing the effectiveness of cognitive interviews

Q

one weakness is

A

Another weakness is that cognitive interviews further increase the number of worng innacurate statements. A meta analysis was conducted and it found that in cognitive interview process shtere was an increase in 81% f accurate answers however there was also an increase of 61% of inaccurate evidence compared to standard police interviews this is a weakness as the insightful and in-depth question may lead people to fabricate ideas and events that weren’t present in the first place thus it leads to a less accurate description of incident thus decreasing its effectiveness in obtaining accurate testifies
