Learning Theory Attachment Flashcards
What is the theory of learning theory and attachment
All behaviour is learnt from experience as we are born as tabula rasa Nd attachment formation is learnt through experience
What is classical conditioning
The food produces an unconditioned response of pleasure the food is paired with the mother which provides neutral stimulus this pairing creates baby to feels pleasure over time and when learning has occurred the baby feels pleasure in the presence of the mother without the food this shows learning has occurred and attachment has been formed
What is operant conditioning
There is a drive food and hunger the food reduces the drive reduction which causes pleasure the food is primary drive reducer the mother provides the food the secondary drive reduced the food is the reward overtime the baby realises tgat the mother provides the food and is the sign of reward learning has then occurred
What is the strength of the learning theory
It his plausible and there is scientific research from pave love and skinner these experiments were highly controlled and led to finding that food can be used to learn through operator and classical condiffio inf this is a strength as it supports the idea that a baby forms an attachment with the another and the food
A weakness is that
There is refuting evidence that food is not the main factor when forming an attachment harlows monkeys were placed in front of cage wore mother and towel comfort contact mother when the monkeys were scared they sought comfort when scared from the towel mother rather than the food cage mother further more Lorenz saw that attachment formed with chicks through imprinting the first moving object they see this is a weakness as it not only Food that contributes to the formation of the attatchment and other factors are involved
A weakness is that there is an alternative theory to explain attachment
Bowling proposed that babies form attachment t due to instrinsic drive to form one when babies were born they were born with an innate behaviour such as social releases through tour the critical period and Boleyn suggested that the caregiver sensitivity to these social releases has led to an attachment formation and they also explain why it formed due to adaptation and evilution in order to survive this is a weakness as the learning theory only states the relationship between food and attachment and doesn’t confident I ate behaviours
