Q

A strength is it used highly scientific and objective methods

A

The experiment and research used to support the cognitive approach are highly controlled and objective findings this controlled method allows other scientist to replicate the experiment so they can have the same finding that behaviour is the result of internal mind processes
Furthermore sting cause and effect relationship increases the link

Q

Supporting evidence that abnormal behaviour are a result of faulty schemes

A

Researcher beck demonstrated that faulty schemes can lead to irrational beliefs and are more likely to show irrational behaviours due to cognitive make up Ellis also demonstrates how negative shenas can lead to depression like behaviour this is a strength as it shows how faulty schemes can affect people and affect behaviour and that behaviour is based on internal thought processes thus increasing validity

Q

It’s a reductionist

A

It oversimplifies behaviour is yh as mental illness as a result of faulty schemes this is a weakness as it ignores factors such as biological factors even though there is evidence to support that depression my be fused by an imbalance of neurotransmitter as the ca doesn’t account for the other factors it’s a reductionist decreasing validity

Q

What are assumptions of ca

A

Human mind is like a computer behaviour is a result of internal mind process
Info we take in is actively professes humans aren’t passive responders to the environment

Q

What is the theoretical model

A

human mind transforms sensory information. The model assumes that information from the environment is subjected to mediational processes which underlies the behaviour (output). This model rejects the simple stimulus and response pattern
The input comes from the environment in the senses and its encoded by the individual
The mediations processes: the events are processed by perception attention and decision making
The output is the behavioural approach in response the processing

Q

The study of internal thought process

A

It is private and can not be observed however we can make assumptions based on inference making assumptions of unobservable mind by basing assumptions on observable behaviour going beyond immediate evidence

Q

What are schemes

A

Cognitive framework that helps organise and structure information create mental shortcuts in the brain so that we can fill in gaps in information we develop through experience inform our expectations and enable us to behave appropriately and ignore irrelevant details

Computer Models A01

A

using experimental technology computer models can be used to understand cognitive mind processes that cannot be observed in the human mind this involves setting up an algorithm which includes step by step instructions likened to han mental processes once the algoritihim is in place an input is generated likened to enviromental stimulus this then processed by the algorithim which produces an output likened to human behaviour

cognitive neuroscience A01

A

it is the studying of brain structures on influence of metal processing due to development of brain imaging such as fmri and pet scans it has allowed scientist to objectiveely and sytematicly observe and describe neurological basis of mental process it has allowed to see the different types of short term memory to see the problems with the memory store and treatment options
see the brain scan of those whith ocd and depression so can study and provide correct treatmetn
