What is the model of phobias

A

Learning theory suggest that behaviour is learnt though experience and we are born as a blank slate and our experience shape us
Mower believe that the phobia is first acquired by classical conditioning and then maintained by operant condition

What is operant conditioning

A

The phobic stimulus causes fear and in order to remove fear they avoid the phobic stimulus which is rewarded by removing the fear and allow calm this frequency of avoidance behaviour is then increases in order to gain the same reward therefore maintained

What is flooding

A

Direct and immediate exposure to the stimulus preventing avoidance as this maintains phobias they are left on prevents of the phobic stimulus until they’re no longer physically aeouswd and can remain calm and realise their fear is irrational extinction of behaviour or extinction of fear by exhaustion

What is anxiety hierarchy

A

An anxiety hiervahu is provoking anxiety situation the client and therapist come up which a phobic hierarchy which is faced across many session it is created in the basis that relaxation and fear cannot occur at the Sal erode reciprocity inhibition thus the fear is replaced with relaxation counter conditioning they learn relaxation techniques and try to remain calm in the phobic stimulus once they are calm in presence of phobic stimulus they can move up the hierarchy
