What is Vealey’s multidimensional model of sport confidence?
Vealey’s multidimensional model of sport confidence consists of the constructs, sources, consequences and the factors influencing sports confidence.
Explain Vealey’s multidimensional model of sport confidence.
The constructs of sport confidence are the things that makeup sport confidence like decision-making skills, physical skills and the capacity to learn and develop.
The sources of sport confidence are where we get our confidence from like mastery, demonstration of ability, self presentation and physical and mental preparation.
The consequences of sport confidence are the affect that confidence has upon athletes. This follows the ‘ABC’ (affect, behaviour and cognition) for example, if they have high confidence, they are more likely to have a positive affect and more likely to try and work harder (behaviour) and are more likely to pay more attention to continue improving (cognition).
The factors of sport confidence are the things that make us more or less confident like personality factors, demographic factors and organisational factors.
What is the affect of low or high confidence?
If an athlete has low or over-confidence, they may miss relevant information as they are paying less attention which can decrease performance which will affect thrir psychological well-being and increase their risk of injury.
