What is social loafing?
Social loafing is the psychological concept that states individuals will put in less effort when working with a group than they will when working alone
Why does social loafing occur?
Social loafing stems from an individuals belief that their input will not effect the group.
How does social loafing effect team performance?
Social loafing has a negative impact on team performance as once one player social loafs, another performer will take on the role to achieve their goals which allows other to slack off, creating more social loafing.
What is the Ringelmann effect?
The Ringlemann effect is the tendency for a teams productivity to decrease as the size of their group increases.
Explain the Ringelmann effect.
The Ringelmann effect illustrates a reverse relationship between the size of the group and the increasing number of performers effort to complete a task. Ringelmann discovered this via tug of war as when more athletes were added to each side of the rope, individual effort decreased. This has a negative impact on sports performance.
