What are group dynamics?
A
Group dynamics is defined as the social changes and processes occurring when a previous group is changed or a new group is formed.

What is Tuckman’s 5 stages of group development?
A
Tuckman’s 5 stages of group development states that every group undergoes these five stages in the same order; forming, storming, norming, performing and then adjourning.

What happens within forming?
A
- team familiarise themselves
- athletes decide if they belong within the group
- athletes identify others strengths and weaknesses
- athletes start to identify a role within the group

A
- conflicts develop
-leaders can be questioned by athletes
- democratic leader occurs.

- conflict is replaced with cooperation and solidarity
- group work towards common goals
-group cohesion + satisfaction increases.

- group progresses effectively
- group motivation is high
- group work towards shared goals + objectives

A
- most overall team goals are achieved
- athletes experience a review period
- athletes experience a period of reward + reflection of achievements
- group may separate as all achievements have been completed.
