Perfectionism is when an athletes sets themselves high performance standards.
What are the two types of perfectionism?
Functional and Dysfunctional perfectionism.
What is functional perfectionism?
Functional perfectionism is a positive form as it allows athletes to gain pleasure from attempting challenging goals and has a positive impact on performance as it keeps the athletes highly motivated.
What is dysfunctional perfectionism?
Dysfunctional perfectionism is a negative form were athletes attempt to achieve the unachievable. This has a negative effect on performance as it decreases motivation and can lead to mental health issues and depression.
