What is self-talk?
Self-talk is talking to yourself or outloud and it is used to enhance learning and increase performance. There are both positive and negative types of self-talk.
How to use self-talk?
Self-talk is small and simple phrases to (P) improve motivation and confidence or (N) decrease them. For example, ‘I’m the best at penalties’ or ‘I missed the last penalty i took’.
When can self-talk be used?
Self-talk can be used before an event or before performing a specific skill as it is an extremely versatile intervention that takes seconds to complete.
Why do we use self-talk?
Self-talk is used to improve confidence, improve motivation levels and allows arousal control. However it can also decrease confidence and motivation and increase stress and anxiety when used negatively. Could potentionally increase motivation for NAF athletes
