Spinal Pathways-Spinocerebellar Flashcards
What does the spinocerebellar pathway carry, in general?
Unconscious sensory information
What does the cerebellum do?
Processes unconscious motor signals to coordinate movement, posture, balance
What section/lobe divides the two halves of the cerebellum?
Vermis
What is the inner white matter of the cerebellum?
Arbor vitae
What are the cerebellar nuclei?
Bundles of neuron cell bodies carrying information to the cerebellum
More specifically, what does the spinocerebellar pathway carry?
Proprioceptive information from the muscle to the cerebellum
What root will information travel through in the spinocerebellar pathway?
Dorsal
Where is the first order neuron in the spinocerebellar pathway?
Between the muscle spindle and the dorsal grey horn
Where is the second order neuron in the spinocerebellar pathway?
Between the dorsal grey horn and the cerebellum
Does the spinocerebellar pathway cross through the thalamus?
No
Why can’t you consciously perceive information through the spinocerebellar pathway?
It doesn’t go through the thalamus to the cerebral cortex
Does the spinocerebellar decussate?
No
Where is the third order neuron in the spinocerebellar pathway?
There isn’t one!
