what is discrimination?
unjust treatment of a person because of a characteristic they posses.
what do people get discriminated based on?
race, age, sex, gender reassignment, disability, sexual orientation, religion, pregnancy, marriage or civil partnerships.
what identifies the types of discrimination?
the equality act 2010.
what are the four types of discimination identifies by the 2010 equality act?
direct, indirect, harassment and bullying, victimisation.
what does direct discrimination mean?
treating someone differently because of a characterisitc such as age or race.
what is an example of direct discrimination?
not being considerd for a promotion because of age or race.
what does indirect discrimination mean?
when inderviduals are put at a disadvantage because of a characterisitic such as sex or religion.
what is an example of indirect discrimination?
a dress code introduced which doesn’t allow a head covering.
what does harassment and bullying mean?
being picked on, experiencing abusive, bullying or unwanted behaviour.
what is an example of harassment and bullying?
being mocked directly or indirectly through social media because of gender reassigment or sexual orinentation.
what does victimisation mean?
recieving unfair treatments because of somehting they say or do.
what is an example of vicimisation?
being excluded from a social event at work after making a complaint about the actions of a colleague.
what forms can bullying take?
- verbal.
- cyberbullying.
- physical.
- emotional.
how could you abuse someone verbally?
name calling, threats, sexist or anti-racial comments.
how could you abuse someone through cyberbullying?
sending hurtful comments, sharing private information or photos.
