what is BMI used for?
measure of fat on body in relation to your height.
how do you calculate BMI?
weight (kg)/ height (m²)
what is the range for underweight?
18.5 and under.
what is the range for healthy weight?
18.5 to 24.9
what is the range for overweight?
25 to 29.9
what is the range obese?
30 to 39.9
what is the range severly obese?
40 and above.
what is obesity?
unhealthy excess of fat mass.
what are the effects of obesity?
- extra strain on bones, joints and organs.
- extra pressure on neck during sleep constrict airway- loss of sleep, difficulty breathing.
what are the symptoms of those who are overweight, obese or severly obese?
- difficulty breathing.
- shortness of breath.
- joint pain.
- diffculty sleeping.
what are the future health risks of being overweight, obese, severly obese?
- CHD.
- type 2 diabetes.
- increased blood pressure.
- stroke.
- arthiritous.
why do those who are overweight, obese or severly obese suffer with the symptoms or are at risk to health complications they experience/ will experience?
- puts extra strain on blood vessels and organs.
- excess bodyweight puts strain on joints.
- damage.
- vessels harden and thicken.
- excess fat in certain areas of body (eg: neck.)
what sympotms do those who are underweight experience?
- dizziness.
- fatigue/ lethargic.
- weakness.
- fainting.
what future health risks do those who are underweight may experience?
- eating diorders (eg: anorexia and bulimia nervosa.)
- heart failure.
- malnurishment.
- osteoporosis.
- cancer.
- respitory disease.
- reduced immune system.
why do this who are underweight suffer with the symptoms or at risk to helath complications they experience/ will experience?
