causes cancers of the nse, throat, tounge, lungs, stomach and bladder.
why is carbon monoxide harmful?
reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood, straining the heart.
why is soot harmful?
particles cause bronchitis and emphysema.
why do people smoke?
- feeling unable to quit.
- to overcome addicitions to other drugs or alcohol.
- to relieve stress and relax.
- peer pressure (others doing it.)
- to reward themselves.
- fear of putting on weight (nictotine stops people feeling hungry.)
what are the negative effects of smoking on an inderviduals physical health?
increased risk of life-threatining diseases such as lung cancer, strokes, CHD, emphysema, bronchitis and pneumonia.
smoking during preganacy carries increased risk of having a low birth weight baby, premature or still birth.
what are the negative effects of smoking on an inderviduals intellectual health?
addiction to nictonie causes cravings, irritation, distraction and stress when the smoker is unable to smoke. smokers are more likelyt to develop depression and anxiety over time.
what are the negative effects of smoking on an inderviduals emotional wellbeing?
being unable to quit may lead to poor self-concept. smokers may worry about the negative effects on their health and about the cost of cigarettes. research data shows that smoking is associated with poor mental health.
what are the negative effects of smoking on an inderviduals social wellbeing?
smokers may feel socially excluded when they have to leave social spaces to smoke outside. people may avid smokers because of the smell of their hair, breath and clothes.
what is passive smoking?
breathing in smoke from other peoples cigarettes which carries some of the same risks as smoking.
what is banned in the Uk to help try and prevent passive smoking?
smoking is banned in all public indoor spaces and some outdoor public spaces.
illegal to smoke in a car in company with someone who is under the age of 18.
what are some other proucts which contains nicotine?
smokeless tobacco, nasal snuff, chewing tobacco.
how are other tobacco producsts absorbed and what can it cause?
membranes of the nose and mouth. can cause oral cancer and gum disease as well as increasing the risk for heart disease.
what is a recent nicotine product people have been using, why and what are the long term effects?
electronic cigarettes to inhale nicotine (vaping.)
