Soc 18 - Aerobic, Anerobic Exercise And Eneergy Sources Flashcards
What is equation fir aerobic respiration
Glucose + energy -> carbon dioxide + water + energy
What is the equation for anerobic respiration
Glucose -> energy + lactic acid
When is lactic acid produced
Produced when body is exercising anerobically at high intensity. Not enough oxygen can reach working muscles so glucose is used instead creating a waste product which is lactic acid
What are carbohydrates used for in sport
Main energy source for bith high intensity (anaerobic) exercise and moderate intensity (aerobic) exersice.
What do fats do
Provide energy for only moderate intensity (aerobic) exersice for long periods
What happens when you eat fats
Broken down into fatty acids, which is absorbed into blood and delivered to cells
What happens when you eat carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are broken down into glucose and glycogen which can be absorbed into blood
What do complex carbohydrates do
Provides slow releasing and long lasting energy for exercise
What do simple carbohydrates do
They provide quick fix of energy
Give two examples of complex carbohydrates
Wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta
Give two examples of simple carbohydrates
Buscuits, sweets
