Soc 17 - Structure Of Respiratory System Flashcards
Why do we need our respiratory system (3)
-To get oxygen into the body
-To remove carbon dioxide from body
-Work with Cardiorespiratory keep body supplied with oxygen
What are the two parts of breathing
Inspiration-breathing in
Exhalation-breathing out
what makes up our respiratory system
nose, mouth, throat, voice box, windpipe, lungs and blood vessels
what is the percentage of oxygen and carbon dioxide we breath in
oxygen-20% carbon dioxide-0.4%
what is the percentage of oxygen and carbon dioxide we breath out
oxygen-16% carbon dioxide-4%
what happens to our breathing when we do exercise
breaths get longer and heavier to make up for the oxygen debt
what is vital capacity
the greatest amount of air that can be passed into and out of the lungs by the most forceful inhalation and expiration
what is tidal volume
the amount of air inspired and expired wit each breath
what happens in the process of inhalation
air passes though the larynx and then through the trachea into one of the two branches called the bronchi, through which passes through the lungs
what is the relationship between bronchi and bronchioles
bronchioles are smaller branches of sacs of bronchi
what happens in the alveoli
oxygen passe into the blood so it can be transported around the body.
how are capillaries and alveoli connected
capillaries surround alveoli and they carry blood
where are haemoglobin found and what does it do
inside red blood cells and it binds to oxygen
what is the definition of oxygen debt
the amount of oxygen needed at the end of a physical activity to break down any lactic acid
how is oxygen debt repaid
through deep, gasping breaths at he end of an activity to le in a large amount of oxygen to be taken into the respiratory system whilst removing carbon dioxide
