.allows the patient to understand how their delusions and hallucinations make them feel eg: offering psychological explanations for hearing voices should reduce anxiety
what is a strength to CBT as a way of treating SZ?
.NICE review of treatments for SZ -CBT was effective at rescuing rehospitilisation rates for up to 18 months following the end of treatment with CBT
what is a negative to CBT as a way of treating SZ?
.NICE review of treatments -most studies investigated combination treatments with antipsychotics, limiting validity as it’s hard to isolate wether CBT is working independently
