Signs and symptoms of scaphoid fractures?
A
- Tenderness in anatomical snuff box
- Pain on compressing (Telescoping) the thumb metacarpal

Investigation of scaphoid fracture?
A
- X-rays are difficult to visualise (takes 2 weeks to visualise sometimes)
- Take 4 views (AP, lateral, 2 oblique)

Complications of scaphoid fracture?
A
- Non-union (synovial fluid inhibiting fracture healing)
- AVN of proximal pole

Treatmnet of undisplaced scaphoid fracture?
A
Plaster for 6-12 weeks

Treatmnet of displaced scaphoid fracture?
A
-Fixed woth compressing screw
CT to see if union has occurred

Screw fixation & bone grafting
