Respiratory system Flashcards
1
Q
what is ventilation?
A
process of moving in and out of the lungs and internal, bringing oxygen in and removing carbon dioxide
2
Q
what is fricks law?
A
but diffusion is proportional to=
Surface area x concentration gradient/ thickness.
3
Q
what do cells are involved in defence mechanisms of the respiratory system?
A
- goblet cells: produce
- Ciliated cells: have cilia
4
Q
What is the area inside the ribs called?
A
thorax
5
Q
What type of cells is alveoli made out of?
A
squamous cells
6
Q
what are three adaptations of alveoli?
A
- there, once a fixer, there’s a short diffusion path
- they have a large surface area and there are millions of them
- There is always a constant concentration gradient
7
Q
What is the muscle in between the ribs called?
A
Intercostal muscles
8
Q
What happens during inspiration?
A
- The rips move up and out
- external intercostal muscles contract
- diaphragm contracts and flattens
- Thorax increases in volume decrease in pressure
- Air moves into the lungs
9
Q
What happens during expiration?
A
- The ribs move down and in
- Internal intercostal muscles contract
- The diaphragm, relaxes and arches
- The thorax, volume decreases and the pressure increases
- Air moves out
10
Q
name a few respiratory diseases:
A
- emphysema (damage to the alveoli)
- Conary heart disease
- Chronic bronchitis (information of the bronchi)
