when is CVS carried out?
11-14 weeks
when is amniocentesis carried out?
15-20 weeks
what are the 2 methods of CVS?
- Transabdominal CVS: through abdomen into uterus’s
- Transcervical CVS: through vagina and cervix into uterus
how is amniocentesis carried out?
- long needle is interested through the abdominal wall using ultrasound scanning to guid
- passes into amniotic sac and a small sample it amniotic fluid is collected
how is ur heart rate measured?
with a pulse oximeter
what is high and low heart rate called?
- high: trachycardia
- low: bradycardia
what is a normal heart rate?
- 60-100 bpm
what is used to measure blood pressure?
a syphomamanometer
what is normal blood pressure?
120/80 mmgh
what does the top and bottom number of BP reading represent?
- top: pressure in the main arteries when heart contracts
- bottom: pressure in main arteries when heart relaxes
how do u take a manual BP reading?
what is a typical respiratory rate of a resting healthy adult?
12-20 breaths per minute
what is a slow respiratory rate called and indicate?
- bradypnoea
- brain injury, use of opioids or alcohol intoxication
what is high respiratory rate called and indicate?
- trachypnoea
- asthma, pulmonary embolism

36.5/37.5
what do tissue perfusion test show?
weather there is normal blood flow to different areas of the body
how is tissue perfusion performed?
- apply pressure to patients limb using thumb
- watch the skin; it should turn white as blood flow to the area become restrictedb
- remove hr thumbs to allow the blood flow back
- if this takes longer than expected there is an issue
- this is then followed up with an ultrasound
how is oxygen saturation measure?
pulse oximeter
what is normal blood saturation?
94-99%
what methods are used to obtain DNA?
- cheeck swabs: swan for 1min,allow to dry then place in container can have an issue of contamination
- blood sample: need a trained medical professional
