Posthepatic hyperbilirubinemia Flashcards
1
Q
Causes
A
Obstructive cholestasis
2
Q
How can you differentiate hepatic and post hepatic
A
Ultrasound
3
Q
Obstructive cholestasis
A
Bilirubin unable to leave bile duct and the pressure of Bc builds up and you get regurgitation of Bc into the blood and eventually leads to bilirubinuria
4
Q
Causes of obstructions
A
Choleliths
Cholangitis
Cholangiocarcinoma
Pancreatitis
Bile duct obstruction
Upper small intestinal obstruction
5
Q
Other findings SA
A
Increased ALP/GGT
Increased total bilirubin
Increased ALT (secondarily from damage due to cholestasis)
Bilirubinuria
6
Q
Other findings LA
A
Increased total Bu
Increased GGT
Increased SDH
Bilirubinuria
(ruminates might not have increased total bilirubin)
