Coagulation Disorders Flashcards
Coagulopathy type bleed
Delayed deep tissue hemorrhage, hematomas, hemorrhage into body cavities. Usually more life threatening
Prekallikrein deficiency
Autosomal recessive. Not usually associated with clinical bleeding. Increased APTT and ACT. Seen in horses and dogs
Factor XII deficiency
No clinical bleeding and autosomal inheritance
Increased APTT and ACT
Factor VII Deficiency
Mild to no clinical bleeding, autosomal inheritance
Increased PT
Factor VIII deficiency
Hemophilia A, X linked inheritance
Mild to severe bleeding
Increased APTT and ACT
Factor IX Deficiency
Hemophilia B, X linked
Mild to severe bleeding
Increased APTT and ACT
Vitamin K deficiency causes
Dietary inadequacy
Biliary obstruction
Malabsorption
Liver disease
Drugs
Vitamin K antagonism
-Coumarin
-Warfarin
-Sweet clover hay
Warfarin
Inhibits epoxide reductase and prevents Vitamin K recycling that is used to create negatively charged coagulation proteins. Affects VII first because of the shorter half life
Secondary problem with long term Vitamin K treatment
Heinz body formation and subsequent hemolysis
Decompensated DIC findings
Prolonged APTT and PT
Thrombocytopenia
Decreased fibrinogen (dogs and cats)
Normal or increased fibrinogen (cattle and horses
Increased FDPS and D-dimers
