Analysis of lipids Flashcards
Sample preferred
Serum
Standing plasma test
Stick in refrigerator and test for chylomicrons
Cream layer on top-> chylomicrons present
Turbidity without cream layer on top-> latescence due to VLDLs
If visual plasma turbidity is present
-TG will be increased because the plasma contains high concentration of a TG rich lipoproteins (chylomicron or VLDL)
-Cholesterol typically increased because plasma contains high conc. of lipoproteins that contain cholesterols
If visual plasma turbidity is not present
-Tg may still be increased because plasma contains high concentration of TG rich lipoprotein (chylomicron or VLDL)
-Cholesterol may still be increased cholesterol rich molecules (LDL and HDL ) due not cause visual lipemia
NEFAs
Free FA
Produced by breakdown of TG and increase in response to negative energy balance
