Chronic Renal Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Decreased renal reserve
A
Clinically healthy and not polyuric and not azotemic but GFR is about 50%. Don’t recognize clinically
2
Q
Chronic renal insufficiency
A
Loss of 50-75% of function. Azotemia, anemia, and decrease concentration
3
Q
Chronic renal failure
A
20-25% function. Azotemia, anemia, decreased concentrating ability, electrolyte imbalance, clinical uremia
4
Q
End stage renal disease
A
<5% function. Terminal uremia and oliguria or anuria
5
Q
Cause of polyuria in chronic renal disease
A
- More solute presented to remaining nephrons (solute diuresis) more water stays in tubules
- Medullary hypertonicity not maintained
- Damaged cells less responsive to ADH
6
Q
Species that show hypercalcemia during chronic renal failure
A
Equines
