Azotemia Flashcards
Azotemia
Increased urea nitrogen and or creatinine
Renal azotemia
The cause is the nephron. Urine is not concentrated in the face of dehydration. Isothenuric urine
Pre renal azotemia
Due to processes outside the kidney and urine is concentrated
Causes of prerenal azotemia
-Decreased GFR-> dehydration, hypovolemia, severe decreased CO
-Increased production of urea or creatinine-> high protein diet, GI hemorrhage, heavily muscles animals
Renal azotemia cause
Any form of renal disease that causes damage to kidney and decrease GFR
Post renal azotemia
Primary problem after the nephron and the excretion of urine and concentration varies
Causes of post renal azotemia
-Ureteral or urethral obstruction
-Rupture/leakage
Uremia
Clinical syndrome associated with renal failure. Azotemia plus the severe physical consequences of renal failure like: PU/PD, non regen anemia, weight loss, convulsions, GI ulcers, vomiting and diarrhea
