What is the carrying capacity?
The maximum population size a habitat can support over an extended period of time- determined by abiotic and biotic limiting factors
What abiotic factors impact carrying capacity?
Temperature, light intensity, pH, water, humidity
What biotic factors impact carrying capacity?
Intraspecific competition, interspecific competition, predation
How does temperature impact the carrying capacity?
Enzymes may denature
How does light impact the carrying capacity?
Low light- limits the growth of producers, lack of glucose and photosynthesis- can affect food chains and limit carrying capacity
High light- increases the growth of producers
How does water impact carrying capacity?
Lack of water limits carrying capacity
How does humidity impact carrying capacity?
Less transpiration- less water produced for photosynthesis
How does pH impact carrying capacity?
Low pH- acidic
High pH- alkaline
Therefore enzymes denature
