Golgi Apparatus Flashcards
What is the Golgi apparatus?
A stack of flattened sacs of membrane with many enzymes and other proteins embedded in the membrane surfaces
Is the trans face an intracellular or extracellular destination?
Both
What is the trans face?
Packages products for transport into vesicles
What is enocytosis?
Exiting the cell
What is enocytosis needed for?
To reach extracellular destination
Secretion is…
Regulated
What can secretion be initiated by?
A ligand binding to a receptor cell
What are within the vesicles?
Often proteases that cut the polypeptide chain at given amino acid positions
What is a result of the polypeptide chain being cut at the amino acid positions?
The activation of the protein being secreted e.g. pro insulin into insulin
What happens in the medial cisternae?
The contents are modified to become functional molecules
What happens once the contents are modified?
The contents are then marked for delivery to the desired destination
Where does the addition of sulphate happen?
In the trans cisternae
What is the cis face closest to?
The ER
What is the cis face responsible for?
Sorting proteins and lipids that are received from the cytoplasm
What fuses with the cis face?
Proteins and lipids that arrive in clusters or fused vehicles
