Meisois 1 Flashcards
What is a karyotype?
A visual representation of the chromosomes in a cell
What does homologous mean?
The same genes on each
What is the definition of haploid?
Homologous pairs of chromosomes separate so that only one chromosome from each pair enters a daughter cell
Order of meiosis 1?
Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
What happens in prophase 1?
Homologous chromosomes appear- each made of 2 chromatids- joined at the centromere
The chromatids have wrapped around eachother
What happens in metaphase?
Spindle forms and homologous pairs of chromosomes line up along the middle as a homologous pair on the metaphase plate
What happens in anaphase 1?
The centromere does not split
The homologous pairs are pulled to opposite ends of the cell (the poles)
What happens during telophase?
The nuclear membrane reforms around two haploid nuclei
