pathology of renal disease - hepatobilary system Flashcards
what can go wrong with the renal system
not enough filtration too much filtration too little reabsoprtion blocked/inflammed tubules tables can die in chunks tumours
not enough filtration can be due to
not enough blood flow through glomeruli
blocked filter
lack of glomeruli
renal disease steps
acute renal failure
lack of blood flow
haemodynamic shock
not enough blood flow
filtration much slower than normal
cannot filter out as much urea
can cause a build up in the blood
- when blood pressure decreases, urine output goes down
not enough filtration, to correct this want to increase their BP
causes of a blocked filter
nothing to see (minimal change glomerular nephritis)
proteins (attach to BM, block glomeruli)
Proliferative (blocked by inflammatory cells
lack of glomeruli leads to and what is a cause for lack of glomeruli
insufficient filtration
hypertension can reduce numbers
too much filtration
leaky membranes
may lead to proteins filtered and excreted in urine
leads to proteinuria
nephrotic syndrome
damage to small vessels in the kidney, too much protein filtered out
loss of albumin
albumin absorbs fluid back into blood vessels and tissues - therefore can lead to puffy appearance
acute tubular necrossi
insufficient blood supply
may die off there fore insufficient reabsroption
cause of faulty tubules
toxins can reduce tubule cell sixe
or lack of blood supply
what can cause blocked tubules
casts, crystals, blood clot, bacteria, neutrophils, macrophaes
risk factors for renal cell carcinoma
obesity
smoking
von hippel Lindau syndrom
acquired renal cystic disease
