What is all in the gastric juice?*
- mucus
- Intrinsic factor
- Pepsinogen and lipase

What happens with gastritis?
destruction of parietal cells and intrinsic factor, B12 malabsorption, pernicious anemia, disease of malabsorption
Where is the peptic ulcer?
duodenum or lower part of the stomach
What causes peptic ulcer?
stress, smoking, aspirin, anti-inflammation
Where are gastric neoplasms?
upper GI
What are the two tests for gastric diseases?
- plasma gastrin - immunoassay
- Shilling test - Tests for absorption of vit B12
What are the two inflammatory bowel diseases?
- Crohns disease
- Ulcerative colitis
What are the GI infections?
- Bacteria (E.coli, salmonella)
- Viral (rotavirus and norwalk)
- Protozoal - G. lambila
What are the signs and symptoms of appendicits?
- sudden fever
- Leukocytosis
- Abdominal pain
- Neutrophil shift to the left
What are the causes of malabsorption?
- pernicious anemia
- Gastritis
- Pancreatitis
- Cystic fibrosis
- Obstructive jaundice or any obstruction
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Spure
What are the hormones in pancreatic juices?*
- secretin = stimulates release of bicarb
- Cholecystokinin = stimulates enzyme secretion
What does the sweat chloride test indicate?
increased means cystic fibrosis
