Musculocutaneous nerve Flashcards
Course of musculocutaneous nerve
Arises from lateral cord and leaves axilla
Pierces coracobrachialis near point of insertion (humerus at level of deltoid tuberosity)
Passes down arm anterior to brachialis and posterior to biceps brachii
Emerges laterally to biceps tendon
Termination of musculocutaneous nerve
Emerges laterally to biceps tendon and continues into forearm as lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm
Function of musculocutaneous nerve
Motor Innervation to biceps brachii, brachialis, coracobrachialis
Function/course of lateral cutaneous nerve of forearm
Pierces deep fascia to become subcutaneous (in close proximity to Cephalic vein)
Sensory Innervation to lateral forearm
How is musculocutaneous nerve damaged
Stab wound to axilla region
Consequence of damaged musculocutaneous nerve
Flexion at shoulder weakened
Flexion at elbow weakened
Supination of forearm greatly weakened
Loss of sensation over lateral forearm
Spinal roots
