Axillary nerve Flashcards
Course of Axillary nerve within axilla
Continuation of posterior cord of brachial plexus
After formation it’s posterior to Axillary artery and anterior to subscapularis muscle
Exits axilla posteriorly through quadrangular space
Termination of Axillary nerve
Divides into:
Posterior terminal branch
Anterior terminal branch
Functions/course of posterior terminal branch of Axillary nerve
Gives motor Innervation to teres minor
Continues as upper lateral cutaneous nerve of arm
This gives sensory Innervation to regimental badge area
Functions of anterior terminal branch of Axillary nerve
Motor Innervation to deltoid
Consequences of Axillary nerve damage
Unable to abduct arm
Sensory loss over regimental badge area
Eventually deltoid atrophies and the greater tuberosity can be palpated in that area
Spinal roots
