Median nerve Flashcards

1
Q

Course of median nerve

A

Originates from medial and lateral cords then leaves axilla
Descends down arm, initially lateral to brachial artery
Enters cubital fossa medially
In forearm it travels between flexor digitorum superficialis and profundus
Enters hand via carpal tunnel

Q

Consequences of damage to median nerve at elbow

A

Paralysis of (most) flexors and pronators in anterior forearm
Paralysis of flexor pollicis longus and Thenar muscles
Paralysis of lateral 2 lumbricals
Loss of sensation over lateral palm, palmar surface of 3 and 1/2 fingers and fingertips of lateral 3 and 1/2 fingers
Hand of benediction when trying to make a fist
