Muscular Pt.2 wrist/hand Muscles Flashcards
Define wrist flexion:
the bending of the palm toward the antebrachium
Define Wrist extension:
bringing the Dorsum of the hand toward the antebrachium
Flexor Carpi Radialis:
origin: medial epicondyl of humerus
Insertion: base on metacarpals
Action: wrist flexion
Flexor Digitorum Superficialis:
Origin: medial epicondyl of humerus
Insertion: middle phalanges
Actin: flexes wrist & digits/fingers
Flexor Pollicis Longus:
Origin: radius
Insertion: distal phalange of thumb
Action: flexes thumb
Flexor Retinaculum:
Band of CT on anterior wrist
Anchors flexor tendons during contraction
Carpal Tunnel:
Space b/w carpal wrist bones & flexor reticulumn
Function: passageway for flexor tendons & on nerves
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome:
the swelling & pressure on nerves from repetitive motion, pregnancy, diabetes, arthritis
causes numbness & weakness
Extensor Carpi Radialis:
Origin: distal humerus
Insertion: base of metacarpals
Action: wrist extension
Extensor Digitorum:
Origin: distal humerus
Insertion: dorsal phalanges
Action: extends wrist & digits/fingers
Extensor Pollicus Longus & Brevis:
Origin: radius & ulna
Insertion: distal phalange of thumb
Action: extends the thumb
