4 heads, all 4 converge on a single tendon
encloses the patellur ligament
Inserts: tibial tuberosity
Location: Anterior thigh
Action: Extends leg at knee to walk, run
Rectus Femoris:
Mid-superficial
Vastus Intermedius:
middle-deep to rectus feoris
Vastus Lateralis:
lateral to rectus femoris
Sartorius:
Strap-like shape
Longest muscle in the body
Location:Superficial medial thigh
Origin: anterior superior iliacus spine
Insertion: medial tibia
Action: synergist in knee & hip flexion
Gracialis:
medial anterior thigh
Action: flexes & rotates tibia at knee
Hamstrings:
AKA the Popliteal fossa
Location: posterior thigh
Action: knee flexion
Biceps Femoris of Hamstrings:
lateral posterior thigh
Semitendinosus:
Superficial medial posterior thigh
Semimembranosus:
deep medial posterior thigh
