Muscular pt. 2 Types of Muscle Movements Flashcards
Define Action:
The effect produced by muscle
Define Agonist:
Prime mover/Main muscle that produces the action
Define Synergist:
Muscles that assist the agonist perform a movement
Define Antagonist:
Muslce that opposes the agonist
ex: Triceps Brachii extends the arm
Define Flexion:
Bending or decreasing joint angle
Define Extension:
Straightening/ increasing joint angle
Define Abduction:
Lateral movement away from midline
Define Adduction:
Medial movement towards midline
Define Pronation:
turning limb downwards
top of palm, top of arm
Define Supination:
Turing limb upward
palm of hand, forearm
Define Internal Rotation:
Rotating towards midine
ex:rotating hip, leg turns toward midline
Define External Rotation:
Rotating limb away from midline
Define Circumduction:
Moving limb in a circular motion
distal end rotates, proximal remain stationary
Define Eversion:
Turning limb outward away from midline
ex:rolling ankle outwards, heel faces inward
Define Inversion:
Turning limb inwards towards midline
ex:turning heel of foot towards midline
