Location: Everywhere, except palms + soles
Mainly on face + scalp
Function: Produces SEBUM/skin oil to moisturizerize skin + hair
Define Acne:
Bacterial infection of clogged sebaceous glands

Sex Hormones
Puberty causes Sebaceous Glands to:
Over-produce SEBUM

Define Eccrine Sweat Glands:
Location:Everywhere, except lips
Mainly: Scalp, Palms, Soles of feet
Function: Produce perspiration/sweat
Define Perspiration:
odorless, watery fluid
Contains: Water, Electrolytes, Urea
response to increased body temp.
Define Diaphoresis:
The process of sweating to cool the body down when sweat evaporates
A form of thermal regulation
Define Apocrine Sweat Glands:
The axillae (armpits), areola and nipples of the breast, perianal region, and some parts of the external genitalia.
Axillary/ armpit + inguinal/groin regions
Function:Produces oily form of sweat
Sweat acts as a pheramone
The odor is produced by bacteria eating fat
Define Pheromone:
Chemical messengers that travel outside of the body to send signals to other organisms
