Movement- CNS control Flashcards

1
Q

upath of upper motor neurons to brain

A

corticospinal tract, cross over to other side at the pyramidal decussation which is where the medulla and spinal cord meet

Q

preferred direction

A

primary motor cortex neurons prefer one direction. for that direction they have the most amount of AP firing. broadly tuned: neuron responds to a broader range of stimuli or commands (not just their max response stimulus or command)

Q

population coding

A

occurs in the primary motor cortex, the representation of info by activity distributed over a large number of neurons (one with biggest response moves most. others around it are slightly less active, etc.)

Q

SMA and PMA

A

supplementary motor area and primary motor area, responsible for thinking about/ anticipating/ planning movements, low level planning

Q

posterior parietal cortex

A

connected with prefrontal cortex, carries infor about somatosensation (body position) and navigation (body location)
