What is vulvovaginitis?
Inflammation of the vulva, vagina, or both, often accompanied by abnormal vaginal discharge.
What are some common infectious causes of vulvovaginitis?
Bacterial vaginosis, candidiasis, and trichomoniasis.
What factors can predispose individuals to bacterial vaginosis (BV)?
Being sexually active, having a new sexual partner, and using intrauterine devices (IUDs).
What are common symptoms of candidiasis (yeast infection)?
Itching, external dysuria, vaginal discharge, and post-coital dyspareunia.
What is a characteristic sign of trichomoniasis?
Frothy, off-white/yellow vaginal discharge, along with potential erythema (redness) of the vagina and exocervix (strawberry cervix).
