Module 2 - Normocytic-Normochromic Anemias Flashcards
1
Q
Describe Normocytic-Normochromic Anemias
A
characterized by erythrocytes that are normal in size and hemoglobin content but insufficient in number.
2
Q
What are the 4 distinct anemias that fall under NNA
A
(1) aplastic (damage to bone marrow erythropoiesis); (2) posthemorrhagic (acute blood loss); (3) hemolytic, which includes acquired (immune destruction of erythrocytes), heredity (e.g., sickle cell, see Figure 21.2L), and hemolysis (destruction by eryptosis); and (4) anemia of chronic inflammation (e.g., chronic kidney disease). The diversity of the NNAs is summarized in Table 21.2. (Sickle cell anemia is discussed in Chapter 22.)
