Methods Of Classifying Skills Flashcards
What are skill placed on
A continuum
What are the 4 continuums used
Difficulty
Environmental influence
Pacing
Muscular involvement
What points would be on a continuum for
Difficulty
And give definition for these
Basic to complex
Basic = require less concentration and coordination than complex skill
Complex = need to be able to coordinate a number of different actions together
What points would be on a continuum for
Environmental influence
Open to closed
What points would be on a pacing continuum
Self paced to externally paced
What points would be on a muscular involvement continuum
Gross skill to fine skill
Define what an open and a closed skill is
Open = a skill that is performed in a certain way to deal with a changing or unstable environment
Closed = a skill that is not affected by the environment or performers within it
The skill is down the same way each time
Define a self paced skill and externally paced skill
Self paced = a skill started when performer decides to start it
The speed, rate or pace of the skill is controlled by the performer
Externally paced = skill started because of an external factor e.g an opponent or environment
Define a gross movement skill and a fine movement skill
Gross movement= a skill that uses large muscle groups to perform big strong powerful movements
Fine movement = involves small precise movements showing high levels of accuracy and coordination (use of small groups of muscles)
