What is the definition of a balanced diet
A diet that consumes the right quantity of food so you only consume the calories you expend each day
And the diet contains all the mineral vitamins and nutrients it needs
What happens if you eat too many calories
Unused energy is stored as fat and u become obese
What happens if you eat too little calories
You’ll not had the energy to carry out daily tasks or to take part in physical activity

25-30% fat
15-20% protein
What are the 2 types of carbohydrates
Simple and complex
What are simple carbs
Sugars including glucose
They break down quickly to provide the body with immediate energy
What are complex carbs
Starches
They are released slowly and are less likely to be stored as fat
What is fat
An energy source that provides more energy than carbs but only when exercising at a low intensity
What are the 2 types of fats
Saturated and unsaturated
What are saturated fats
Solid at room temperature
Too much of them means heart disease and obesity
What are unsaturated fats
Liquid at room temp
They are much healthier and reduce risk of heart diseases
What do proteins do
Support muscle growth and repair
They are important to eat after physical activity to help muscles recover
What’s the difference between vitamins and minerals
Vitamins = organic Minerals = inorganic
Why are vitamins and minerals required
In small quantities to essentially keep the body systems working efficiently
