Aerobic And Anaerobic Exercise Flashcards
What is aerobic exercise
Takes place in presence of oxygen
Exercise take solace over a long period of time and heart can supply oxygen
What is the equation of aerobic Respiration
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy
Why does the body prefer aerobic exercise
Lots of energy can be easily produced with few harmful products
And this means you can work for a long amount of time
Examples of aerobic respiration
Long distance running
Endurance cycling
What is anaerobic exercise
Takes place in the absence of enough oxygen
The exercise is short in duration and high intensity so the heart and lungs cannot supply enough blood to the working muscles
What’s the equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose = energy + lactic acid
What happens to muscles when they work anaerobically
They produce a waste product called lactic acid
The muscles then become more painful and fatigued
So the body can only work anaerobically for a short period of time
What does EPOC stand for
Excess post exercise oxygen consumption
What is EPOC
Amount of oxygen needed to recover after anaerobic exercise
It replenishes the body with oxygen and enables the body to convert lactic acid in glucose, co2 and h20
Anaerobic exercise examples
100m sprint
