Male Internal Viscera Flashcards
What is the prostate? (2)
- Surrounds prostatic urethra
- Covered: visceral layer of pelvic fascia
What is the function of the prostate?
- Fnx: Contributes to seminal fluid
Prostate Relations:
Base (sup) =
Neck of bladder
Prostate Relations:
Apex (inf) =
Sup. aspect of urethral
sphincter and deep perineal muscles
Prostate Relations:
* Ant. surface =
Pubic symphysis, retropubic space, puboprostatic lig.
Prostate Relations:
* Post. surface =
Ampulla of rectum
Prostate Relations:
* Inferolateral surface =
- Inferolateral surface: levator ani
What are the 3 lobes of the prostate?
- 1 medial lobe (not palpable)
- 2 lateral lobes (R&L)
- Palpable on rectal examination
What are the prostatic ducts? (2)
- 20-30 ducts
- Open into urethra
What is the arterial supply of the prostate?
- Arterial supply: Prostatic branches
- Inferior vesical, middle rectal & internal pudendal arteries
What is the venous supply of the venous drainage?
- Venous drainage
- Prostatic venous plexus → internal iliac veins
What are the Bulbo-urethral glands? (3)
- Two pea-sized glands (Cowper’s glands)
- Posterolateral to membranous urethra
- Lies in deep perineal pouch
What is the function of the Bulbo-urethral glands?
- Fnx: Contributes to seminal fluid
Bulbo-urethral glands
* Excretory ducts open in _____ urethra
spongy
What are the Seminal glands/vesicles? (2)
- Elongated structure covered by peritoneum
- Obliquely placed glands
Where does the Seminal glands/vesicles lie?
- Sup. to prostate, post. to bladder, lateral to ampulla of
ductus deferens, ant. to rectum
- Duct of seminal gland joins _____ _______
- Ejaculatory duct
ductus deferens
What is the function of the Seminal glands/vesicles?
- Function: Contributes fluid to seminal fluid
What is the blood supply of the Seminal glands/vesicles?
- Blood supply
- Artery to seminal gland/vesical (B: IVA & IRA)
What is the venous drainage of the Seminal glands/vesicles?
- Venous drainage
- Accompanying veins (to the arteries)
What is the function of the Ductus deferens/Vas deferens?
Transport sperm
What is the course of the vas deferens?
What is the blood supply of the Ductus deferens/Vas deferens? (2)
Termination:
- Artery to ductus
deferens (B: SVA) - Terminates:
anastomosis – testicular
a.
Venous drainage:
* Veins from ductus →
* Terminal portion →
- Veins from ductus →
testicular vein - Terminal portion →
vesicular venous plexus
