What are the 6 components of the lymphatic system?

What does the lymphatic system do?
- Returns interstitial fluid and protein to the blood
- Filters and destroys unwanted materials in body fluid
- Initiate the immune response
What is lymphoma?
A malignant neoplasia involving lymphocyte proliferation in lymph nodes
What are the two main disorders with lymphoma?
Hodgkins lymphoma
Non-hodgkins lymphoma
What is the cause of lymphoma?
No specific cause
What is Hodgkins Lymphoma?
-Initially a single lymph node.
-Spreads to adjacent nodes and organs via lymphocytes.
-T lymphocytes appear defective.
-First indicator is a painless enlarged lymph node
-Signs of cancer appear - weight loss, anaemia, fatigue.
What is Non-Hodkins lymphoma?
Similar initially to Hoskins lymphoma, however there is multiple lymph node involvement.
What is lymphedema?
-An abnormal collection of lymph fluid in the extremities.
-Congenital
