Drug therapies for respiratory disorders Flashcards
What are B2 agonists?
Bronchodilaters
Where are B2 receptors found?
On the lungs
B2 on the lungs (think 2 lungs)
B1 on the heart (think 1 heart)
What is an example of a B2 agonist?
Albuteron
What is the mode of action of B2 agonists?
-B2 agonists bind to a GDP protein receptor
- The alpha subunit on the GDP turns it into GTP
- Another alpha subunit turns it into AC
What is bronchodilation?
Relaxation of the smooth muscles in the bronchioles
What does the mode of action of the beta 2 agonist do?
- In activates myosin light chain kinase
- Decrease in intracellular calcium
What are anticholinergics?
Long acting bronchodilators ending in “-tropium” that reduce secretions.
What do anticholinergenics block?
Accytylcholine
How do we treat dry mouth and throats that are caused by anticholinergics?
Use gum
Drink fluids
