- Large amount of Na and Cl rich urine is excreted
- Powerful diuretic

- Acute HF
- Acute pulmonary edema
- Edema r/t CHF, renal, or liver disease
- HTN

A
- Allergy
- Electrolyte depletion
- Anuria/Severe renal failure
- Hepatic coma
- Pregnancy/lactation

- SLE
- Hyperglycemia
- Gout
- Children under 18 y/o

Adverse effects

- Hypokalemia/hypocalcemia
- Hyperglycemia
- Ototoxicity
- Hypotension and dizziness

Drug-Drug interactions
A
- Aminoglycosides or cisplatin: increased risk of ototoxicity
- Anticoagulation: anticoagulant effects are increased
- Indomethacin, ibuprofen, salicylates, or NSAIDs: decreased therapeutics effects of diuretic
