Q

Rowframe. Vacant building in a row of OCCUPIED frames, 3rd line goes where?

A

Stretch to fire building OR opposite exposure depending on where 2nd line was stretched.

28
Q

Rowframe. Vacant building in a row of OCCUPIED frames 4th line?

A

As ordered by IC.

PS occupied structures given 1st consideration

29
Q

Rowframe. Vacant building in a row. 1st to arrive engine stretches what and where?

A

1- 3 1/2 for TL
1 handline to the exterior of the building once TL in operation go to most severe exposure.
PS if necessary engine can use multiversal,
In Line pumping should be considered.

30
Q

Rowframe. When would inline pumping be considered?

A

Vacant buildings in a row.

31
Q

Rowframe. Vacant buildings in a row. 2nd line not needed to back up 1st line you have 2 choices?

A

opposite exposure or through an exp. to rear yard. PS After the 2nd hoseline the rest directed by IC

32
Q

PD’s. When engine company considers back stretch, What should they consider?

A

dropping 2 handlines in front of building.

PS In Line pumping would increase the speed of the operation

33
Q

PD’s. The primary consideration for the placement for 1st line for fire on the 1st fl or floors above is?

A

through the front door.

PS members must ensure fire did not start on lower floor or cellar before 1st line is committed.

34
Q

PD’s. Fire in the cellar the best access to take is?

A

entrance door that provides the quickest access to the fire area. this entrance may be through the main entrance or a secondary entrance door.

35
Q

PD’s Who can order an exterior hoseline operated into a cellar window?

A

Chief or Company Officer.

36
Q

PD’s What are the 4 reasons for ordering an exterior line in to the cellar window?
PS. no FF’s in cellar for this operation

A
Unable to access or locate secondary cellar entrance and unable to advance down interior.
Unable to locate any cellar entrance.
serious or advanced cellar fire.
cellar fire INVOLVING LW construction.
IMPORTANT. Acro -Saul
37
Q

PD’s. Members on the 1st fl and exterior line is being operated into the cellar window. What safety considerations should be taken into account?

A

operate under the protection of a charged hoseline.
secure area of refuge, ensuring ready means of egress.
exiting the building.

38
Q

T/F PD’s FF’s trapped by fire in the cellar or endangered by fire because of collapse the IC should order the immediate operation of hoseline into cellar window.

A

True

Good practice at cellar fires especially serious cellar fires. Position this line near the FRONT of building.

39
Q

PD’s Who coordinates the placement of the 1st hoseline?

A

Engine Officer and Ladder Officer

PS just like HRFPMD’s

40
Q

PD’s In detached and semi detached what is the best access to cellar fires?

A

The secondary entrance either found on the rear or side of the building.
PS some entrances are in the front

41
Q

PD’s T/F. When using a secondary entrance flake hoseline then size up layout to entrance, stairs and cellar.

A

False size up 1st then flake

PS especially important in narrow alley, driveway or rear yard.

42
Q

PD’s can Bilco doors be used for hoseline advancement?

A

Yes, if it is the only option but is least desirable.
Extensive forcible entry and bilco is more indicative
of UNoccupied cellar

43
Q

PD’s in a row of attached buildings and there is a cellar fire, where is the best way to stretch the line?

A

Through the front door any other way there is too many obstacles.

44
Q

PD’s there are various factors the preclude the descent of the 1st hoseline down the interior cellar stairs. What are they?

A

High Heat at the TOP of the stairs
Questionable stability of stairs
initial size up indicating a serious fire condition.
PS when this happens use secondary entrance or cellar window.
NEW IMPORTANT

45
Q

PD’s What is of paramount concern when making a decision to advance down interior cellar stairs?

A

Safety of members.

46
Q

PD’s 1st line does NOT advance down cellar stairs it will maintain its position on the 1st fl. Why?

A

Protect the interior stairs leading to floors above.
protect FF’s on 1st fl and above.
Extinguish any fire that extended from cellar.

47
Q

PD’s What is critical at cellar fires?

A

Control of interior cellar door. 1st line will remain until fire is CONTROLLED

48
Q

PD’s Cellar fires. 1st line gets repositioned to the exterior, Who can order this?
PS URGENT by IC using EAB and ensure acknowledgement by interior units

A

Acting Chief Officer/ Chief Officer.

PS this is done if no 2nd line available or unable to find interior cellar entrance

49
Q

PD’s. Cellar fires. When the only line is repositioned to the exterior there are 3 considerations?
Remember Urgent with EAB by IC

A

is another hoseline available.
is repositioning to save or protect life.
will delay in water severely expose an adjoining property.

50
Q

PD’s 1st line is getting repositioned for the cellar fire1st ladder goes where and what about the ladder company on the upper floor?

A

1st ladder Must be withdrawn BEFORE hoseline is repositioned.
Upper fl. ladder withdrawn to to a safe area if no portables are positioned and available.

51
Q

PD’s Cellar fires. Who will help the engine reposition the line from the interior to the exterior 2nd entrance?

A

forcible entry team.

52
Q

PD’s Cellar fires 2nd hoseline. If not needed to back up 1st hoseline, where does it go?

A

any fire that might extend above or positioned per the IC or maybe in the cellar through a secondary entrance. exposure protection, into an exposure, extinguish auto exposure, cellar window, Bilco door

53
Q

PD’s cellar fires 3rd hoseline goes where?

A

charged at the front of building and operated by the IC

54
Q

PD’s. 1st fl and upper floor fires is communicated by and size up is done by who?

A

1st engine and 1st Ladder Officers

55
Q

PD’s 1st fl fire where does the 1st line go?

A

through the main entrance to the 1st floor to putout fire.

PS 1st ladder inside team should ensure fire did not start in basement before committing 1st line.

56
Q

PD’s 1st fl fire 2nd line goes where if not needed to back up 1st line?

A

cellars, other floors or in exposures

57
Q

PD’s 1st fl fire 3rd line goes where?

A

front of the building, charged and operated as ordered by the IC.

58
Q

PD’s Upper floor fire, 1st line goes where?

A

A

cellar
other floors
exposures

60
Q

PD’s Upper floor fire. 3rd line goes where?

A

charged in front of building and operated as ordered by the IC.

61
Q

PD’s Building fully involved. The engine company backstretches they drop what lines?

A

2 handlines in front of building.

PS consider 2 1/2 hose for faster knock down, greater reach, more volume and increased exposure protection.

62
Q

PD’s fully involved u consider using the 2 1/2 for what reasons?
PS operate on exterior to protect exposures before entering

A
faster knock down/greater reach
more volume
increased exp protection
wind impacted
heavy 1st fl fire in larger Private Dwelling (Queen Anne)
63
Q

PD’s fully involved before u enter what must happen?

A

Complete evaluation by IC before entering.

PS wood frame may appear to be fully involved but may only be the siding burning.

64
Q

openings in the under side of the eaves or to the attic

65
Q

PD’s Exposure protection on the exterior of the building should start the stream from where?

A

start from the top sweeping the stream across the face of the building. Consider 2 1/2

66
Q

What are the 3 times there will be 3 lines stretched into a brownstone and Rowframe ?

A

Brownstone fully involved
Rowframe fire on 1st floor
Rowframe fire on upper floor
